November Knits: Cobblestone Trenchcoat

This is the third stop on November Knits Blog Tour! I'm delighted to have a design of mine in such a great company. Kate and Courtney have done perfect work for this lovely book!

My design is a interpretation of a classic trenchcoat: Cobblestone Trenchcoat. It's knit up in Rowan Lima, a warm blend of alpaca, merino and nylon in worsted weight. Lima is just perfectly soft and squishy for this project! For the Cobblestone, I was inspired by a recent visit to Boston - well, it's not that recent anymore. I tried to capture the feeling of warmth I felt strolling down the streets of Cambridge.

I'm happy to announce that Interweave Press has provided a copy of November Knits to give to a lucky commenter! Please comment on this post and I'll draw the lucky winner on Monday, October 22nd.

The Blog Tour continues at Laura Nelkin's blog. See you there!

varjo [shadow]

Varjo [shadow] was my first mystery shawl design in collaboration with the awesome yarn shop Titityy.

I still don't know how I personally feel about mystery designs - but this was fun! Even though the design is anything but complicated, stripes and garter stitch, it held the excitement all the way to the end.

The shawl pattern will be available later.

Simple Sprinkle

Oh, look - some more stripes! I'm pretty sure I could start almost every post like this, but I guess it's alright. One could never talk too much about stripes.

Especially when the stripes are as much fun as in this lovely little design.

Simple Sprinkle
Simple sprinkle cowl makes dreams come true: those small leftover skeins worked in stripes and spiced up with a fun shape. Choose your favourite colours or go with those you happen to have - and cast-on!

Yarn: 560 yards [512 m] or 6 partial skeins of different coloured heavy worsted to aran weight yarn.
Needles: US 9 [5.5 mm]
Gauge: 16 stitches = 4" [10 cm] in garter stitch
Finished measurements: 48” [124 cm] in circumference and 11” [28 cm] in depth.

play

Another shawl with stripes! This time it's called Play, a collaboration with The Uncommon Thread. Though I love the low-contrast colours on my sample, be sure to check out all the wonderful test knits. I'm pretty sure must make a high-contrast one too!

The pattern will be available exclusively as part of a kit sold in The Uncommon Thread’s website starting today, Thursday 30th of August, from 4pm BST onwards.

high-water

Stripes, stripes and some more stripes.

High-Water

Never mind a cold breeze from the sea, building sand castles and picking seashells is great fun in this sailor-inspired pullover. It features a yellow button on both shoulders and horizontal stripes from half-way down. The seam detail on the sides adds structure to the piece and allows the stripes to proceed smoothly from one side of the pullover to the other. The pullover is worked top down in one piece.

Finished chest circumference: 23 (25¼, 27, 29, 30½, 32)” [58 (63, 68, 72, 76, 80) cm]
Yarn: 560 - 880 yards [512 - 805 m] of worsted weight yarn (both colours included)
Gauge: 18 sts and 26 rows in Stockinette stitch = 4" [10 cm]

end of summer hiatus

It's August. Mid-August. Clearly I've been in some sort of Summer hiatus here. But underneath this silence a great deal of things have been brewing slowly. Now that I'm getting back on track, there should be more life here too.

Like this super-fun cowl-to-be:

And other news: The Craft Museum of Finland has nominated me for the "Craftsman of the Year", Vuoden käsityöläinen. It's an amazing honour for me. I feel really overwhelmed by the nomination, and even more by the wonderful support and encouragement you have given me! Thank you!

I'll be in Jyväskylä tomorrow attending a local craft show - please come and say hi, if you happen to be there. You'll find me at TitiTyy's booth C 35/2.
